SAS TRAINING SEMINARS:

SAS Training Seminars, Aug. 31, Sept 1 and 2, 2010
Andrew Karp of Sierra Information Services will present two one-day and one half-day training seminar prior to our KCASUG meeting the afternoon of September 2.  These sessions will also be held at the KU Edwards Center, and tuition for them is payable directly to his firm, Sierra Information Services.  More details and registration are available at http://www.regonline.com/kc2010.  Or, please email your questions about these sessions to training@sierrainformation.com.  Detailed seminar descriptions are available at http://www.sierrainformation.com/seminars_outlines.php .

The training sessions are:

  • Tuesday, August 31:  PROC REPORT: The Basics and Beyond (9 am – 4 pm)
This full-day lecture only class starts shows you the power and flexibility of PROC REPORT, one of the most powerful data reporting and analysis tools available in BASE SAS Software.  Starting with the basics, the course introduces to a wide range capabilities in PROC REPORT that create effective analyses and displays of your results with a minimum of coding.  You will also see how to use SAS ODS (Output Delivery System) tools in conjunction to save your PROC REPORT-generated output as PDF and RTF files, and other ODS capabilities that allow you to “traffic-light” your output and also create “drill down” reports linking the rows in one part of the output to the tables in another.
    .
Prerequisites:  You should have a minimum of one year hands-on programming experience with SAS System Software before enrolling in this class.  In addition, you should be familiar with core SAS programming concepts such as data set, data step, programming language function, assignment statement, label, variable and format.  The materials presented in this session also assume you are comfortable with basic numeric concepts such as the mean and sum of a range of data points.
    .
  • Wednesday, September 1:  Steps to Success with the SAS® Output Delivery System (ODS) (9 am – 4 pm)
This full-day lecture only class identifies and explains core ODS tools that make it easy to “deliver” your Procedure-generated results in HTML, PDF, RTF and other file formats for easy sharing/distribution to others.  The concepts and techniques in this class will enable you to generate your “final report” from SAS output in less time, and in a more appealing format, than by using “cut and paste” or other time-consuming methods to transfer the results to other file formats.  Among the topics covered are:  ODS “destinations,” selecting the “destination(s)” for your output, using SAS-supplied Style Templates, creating customized Style Templates, “traffic-lighting” individual rows/columns/cells of your report, and other tools.  In addition, we will take a brief look at the new ODS Statistical Graphics tools now available in SAS 9.2 Software.
    .
Prerequisites:  You should have a minimum of one year hands-on programming experience with SAS System Software before enrolling in this class.  In addition, you should be familiar with core SAS programming concepts such as procedure step, data set, data step, programming language function, data set descriptor portion, assignment statement, label, variable and format.  The materials presented in this session also assume you are comfortable with basic numeric concepts such as the mean and sum of a range of data points.
    .
  • Thursday, September 2:  Exchanging Data Between SAS and Microsoft Products (8:30 am – 1200 pm)
This half-day lecture-only session explores various methods of moving data between SAS data sets and Microsoft product files, such as Access tables and Excel worksheets.  We will look at the IMPORT and EXPORT “Wizards,” and the IMPORT and EXPORT Procedures, as well as the CSV, CSVALL and HTML ODS “Destinations” and the new XML-based “ExcelXP Tagset” for the efficient transfer of data between SAS and Microsoft products, as well as the Excel LIBNAME Engine, and, briefly, Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE).
